2010 FLEET FEET SPORTS SUMMER TRAINING PROGRAM INFORMATION

We affectionately like to say that there are two parts to the year in Cincinnati running and walking -- Part 1 is Before the PIG and Part 2 is After the PIG!

There are so many opportunities in 2010 to continue along the running or walking path you've been following as you prepare for your upcoming Flying Pig Marathon weekend event.  There are also many opportunities to get started on the running or walking path that you've been talking about all of these months (or years)!

As you begin to think about your plans for the Spring/Summer months think about the following options from Fleet Feet Sports:

Brooks Ladies Night Out Fun Run/Walk

This FREE fun run/walk is for anyone who wants to run or walk with a group of women training for the Lady Distance Classic 5K/10K in August or ladies just looking for a group of women to run or walk with!  The group will begin on Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 6:30 p.m. and all runs/walks will be on Thursdays at Fleet Feet Sports.

Speedplay Training Program

Speedplay is a training program designed for intermediate and experienced runners and run/walkers who are interested in becoming stronger runners and run/walkers.  The goals of Speedplay include improving the cardiovascular system, increasing efficiency of running & run-walking and improving muscle function – which typically results in enhanced strength, “easier” runs and run/walks and, in most cases, faster times.

When our body is used to working out at the same pace day after day, it adapts to the only thing it knows.  Speedplay helps participants break out of this “comfort zone” and adds variety and, more importantly, FUN to workouts.  This year’s program will begin with an introduction to various Speedplay workouts and also include a customized plan that will put participants on the road to running or run/walking smoother, faster, stronger, and with less effort.

All workouts will begin and end at Fleet Feet Sports on Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.  This program will begin in early June.

No Frills 1/2 Marathon & Marathon Training Program

This program is back by popular demand and will begin on Saturday, June 26, 2010 at 7:00 a.m.  This is a training program that includes a training schedule, weekly group workouts, a technical training top and a weekly educational newsletter.

If you have any questions on any of the above mentioned training programs, please contact Katie.

Training Tips:

One of the most important parts of training is stretching. Stretching your leg muscles after a run will help you retain flexibility and reduce the lactic acid build-up. The purpose of stretching after your run is to keep muscles supple, increase the range of motion of joints, increase the blood flow to muscles and prevent injuries.
